Girls Inc. Cares

Girls Inc. of Tarrant County is excited to be a part of the new Care Closet at Eastern Hills High School. The Fort Worth Police department and Eastern Hills High School recruited an amazing team of volunteers who organized the Care Closet last weekend.

A team of 40 volunteers spent the day sorting the bags and bags of goods and clothes.  Our Girls Inc. girls worked diligently to make sure the selected clothes were clothes a teen their age would wear. The girls are excited to be a part of the Care Closet and are determined to make this a success by creating an environment that is welcoming to their school and community.

Many thanks to Pizza Hut for providing lunch for our dedicated volunteers and to Home Depot for providing boxes for the project.  We would also like to thank the Fort Worth PD, the Mental Health Association, and Eastern Hills High School for putting together such a great team.We know our girls are dedicated to making this project successful not only for girls in the school but for the entire community.

One day was not enough to sort through all of the donations we have received for the Care Closet, so we have planned another sort day for July 20.  If you would like to participate in the sort day, please contact Wendy at 817-259-1050  Click here for more information about the Care Closet.

We love our board members!

Girls at our Northside Branch Library program were excited to meet one of Girls Inc. of Tarrant County’s Board members, Courtney. She spoke to the girls about her career in human resources and emphasized the importance of obtaining a college degree.  Courtney explained that getting her Master’s degree has helped her advance in the company.

Courtney also spoke to the girls about entrepreneurship.  She shared her story of her new business venture and told the girls about her company and the products she sells.  The girls were intrigued by her stories about her business, work, and college.

The girls had the opportunity to tell her about their projects through Girls Inc. including Corporate Camp, E3, and Girls InCharge. Courtney was excited to hear about these wonderful programs and told the girls she would like to observe when the Girls InCharge girls facilitate their program with the middle school girls next spring.

We had a great time with Courtney last week.  Thank you for all you do for our agency!  We are grateful!

After school at Nash Elementary

This spring, the girls at Charles E Nash Elementary School have been participating in our Friendly Peer and Girls Beyond Bullying Programs.

The girls have enjoyed activities such as creating anti-bullying posters to hang around the school, making friendship bracelets and practicing refusal skills. The girls looked forward to group each week as we were always greeted with smiles and excitement.

Here is what some of them have said they learned…

"I am beautiful no matter what anyone says.”
“I am strong, smart and brave.”
“Always be confident.”

It has been a great semester and we look forward to next school year!
Thank you Nash Elementary and Fort Worth After School! Have a wonderful summer.
